The 1980s saw the emergence of some of the most iconic TV shows of all time, including Cheers. This classic sitcom, which ran from 1982 to 1993, is still beloved by fans around the world today.
Cheers was set in a Boston bar called Cheers, owned by former Red Sox pitcher Sam Malone. The bar was populated by an eclectic mix of characters, including barfly Norm Peterson and Coach Ernie Pantusso. Other regulars included Sam’s love interests Diane Chambers and Rebecca Howe, waitresses Carla Tortelli and Lana Shields, and bartender Woody Boyd.
The series finale was aired on May 20, 1993. The episode began with a flash forward to the year 2011, and Diane returning to Boston, where she learns that everyone has died in the bar. She goes home and shares a dream with Woody, in which they go back in time to stop Sam from opening Cheers. When they get back to 2011, Woody tells her that he can’t remember the dream because it never happened. Diane then wakes up and realizes the whole thing was just a dream.
