In 1982, George Plimpton and Henry Thomas promoted Night Stalker and Lock ‘N’ Chase for the Intellivision. In an attempt to increase Intellivision’s sales, Mattel decided to hire Thomas, the star of the movie E.T. which Atari had paid millions for licensing rights. Atari was concerned that Mattel might be infringing on their copyright if they revealed Thomas as the character in the commercials, which is why they only mentioned him subtly at the end. Hence, they threatened to take legal action against Mattel if he was named.
